Chichester Harbour Conservancy
Chichester Harbour is one of the largest natural harbours on the south coast and is a popular destination for visitors to West Sussex with its wildlife and facilities for water sports.
With historic waterside villages, such as Bosham and Itchenor, harbourside walks, cycling routes and friendly sailing clubs, the area is popular with those who enjoy the outdoors.
Since 1971, Chichester Harbour Conservancy has been responsible for the control and maintenance of the waters and their surrounding land. It organises many educational and interesting activities for residents and visitors.
These include regular harbour trips on Solar Heritage, a solar-powered catamaran ideal for bird-watchers, and under sail on Terror, a restored Victorian oyster boat.
Escorted walks include a popular annual harbours walking event and there are many other half and full day activities for adults and children such as art, photography, angling and fossil-hunting.
The harbour conservancy has details about the events and useful information for sailors on its website www.conservancy.co.uk or call 01243 512301.
