Public boat trips run every weekend between April and October but why not charter a boat for a private cruise which can be arranged to suit your departure time and give you a choice of trip length; it's ideal for family parties, celebrations, and group outings for 9-50 people. The electrically powered boat Wiggonholt has an access lift.
Light refreshments are available on request, or picnics may be brought onto the boats. Alternatively, the nearby Onslow Arms public house can provide cream teas and Ploughman’s. A variety of special events run throughout the year including Mothering Sunday, Easter, Father’s Day, Pirates & Princesses, Sunset Cruises, Cream Teas and Santa. This is a beautiful area for walking, cycling and a range of activities such as photography and bird watching.
The Canal was built between 1787 and 1816 to link the Rivers Wey and Arun forming an inland waterway linking London to the South Coast. It was used to transport valuable cargo including gold bullion, gunpowder, coal, bricks, chalk and agricultural produce until the coming of the railways. Formally abandoned in 1871 most of the original canal route is still identifiable. Since 1971 the Wey and Arun Canal Trust has been working to re-open this 23 mile waterway.
