The Seed Room
Taking place in the Seed Room, there will be a month-long exhibition of Polly Dutton’s work. Polly has been Parham’s first Artist in Residence since last Spring.
With over 20 pieces on display, be inspired by Polly’s interpretation of Parham before exploring the House and Gardens that inspired her work.
About Polly:
A contemporary artist, Polly endeavours to capture the elements; sun, wind, rain and the effect these have in the landscape. The mark making is spontaneous and she uses various mediums to create work that is vibrant, energetic and atmospheric.
Polly usually works by visiting the landscape a number of times, creating pencil and charcoal sketches to inform the final work. She will then work to finish the piece in her studio. Polly often works quickly and spontaneously in the landscape to capture the changing light and create a painting in one session.
“I am delighted to be showing my creations from a year’s work as Artist in Residence at Parham House and Gardens. I feel I have managed to capture the essence and energy of the seasons in a variety of areas in the Gardens and Pleasure Grounds.
It has been fascinating capturing the contrasts in the Gardens; the luscious planting in the heat of the summer greenhouse compared to the cold still water and bare trees of the lake in winter. I’ve also been fascinated by the abundance of soft planting nestling against the hard structure of the archways and walls throughout the year.
This residency has given me the opportunity to explore and expand ways of working, and pushed me to work with different expressive mediums. The joy of working amongst the artistry created by the gardeners has been a total pleasure. Every one of my creative senses has been stimulated and fulfilled as I have absorbed the extraordinary atmosphere and beauty that is Parham.”
