Chichester Canal

Pie and Mash Cruise

5th April & 27th April 2019

Pie and mash is a traditional working-class food, originating in the East end of London. Pie, mash and eel shops have been in London since the 19th century, and are still common in East and South London and in many parts of Kent and Essex. We are also very lucky here in Chichester to have our very own pie and mash shop.

A choice of three pies, mash, mushy peas and gravy from Chichester’s own award winning Turner’s Pies, a vanilla ice cream from Caroline’s Dairy in Birdham, tea or coffee, one glass of wine, real ale or fruit juice are all included on our cruise which takes around 2 hours. Additional wine or beer is available to buy separately should you wish.

The canal is a beautiful retreat close to the city, easily accessible by public transport. Enjoy the reflections on the water and the unique views of the cathedral and South Downs, especially magical in the sunset. As you glide past the wild flowers and reed beds, watch out for herons and kingfishers in their natural habitat.

The boat has access and room for two people in wheelchairs. If this facility is required, please select “additional space for a wheelchair” as well as including the passenger as an adult or child as appropriate. There is also a lift available for those who may not be able to manage steps.

We regret that dogs are not allowed on our scheduled boat trips, the only exception being guide or assistance dogs.

Book online where you are able to view real-time availability, complete and pay for your booking with immediate confirmation on screen and by email.

Or if you prefer you can book at the canal cafe in person or by phone between 10.30 am and 3.30 pm weekdays.

Please note that our tables are set for four people. If you are booking for less than four people, it may be necessary to share a table with others.
