Weald & Downland Living Museum

The Bodgers’ Ball

SATURDAY 12th MAY TO SUNDAY 13th MAY 2018
10.30am – 5.00pm

The Association of Polelathe Turners & Greenwood Workers (APT) invites you to the 2018 Bodgers’ Ball at the Weald and Downland Living Museum.

Come and enjoy a weekend of greenwood working displays, demonstrations and competitions! The APT’s members, in conjunction with the Museum team, will fill our events field with fascinating demonstrations. There will also be opportunities to try using a polelathe and shave horse, and to talk to the Museum’s team about our courses in traditional rural trades and crafts and historic building conservation.

Explore the Museum’s working woodyard; see the timber crane in action, watch tyring, view the steam-powered racksaw bench and experience a charcoal burn in full smoke. Our heavy horses will be hauling timber if the weather permits.

Head to the Downland Gridshell building and delve into our artefact store; discover our collections covering Building Parts, Methods & Materials, Building Trade Tools & Equipment, Agriculture, Land Management, Transport & Wheeled Vehicles, Rural Trades & Crafts, plus Domestic & Lifestyle.

We will be adding further information and updates for the ball as the planning progresses.

Fans of the Museum’s Wood Show will enjoy the Bodgers’ Ball, which is much larger! For a flavour of the show, see this video of our 2015 Wood Show:
