About the event

An action-packed bank holiday weekend of woodland activities for all the family. Join us in the heart of one of Wakehurst’s most magical spaces, Pearcelands Wood, as we celebrate the secrets of our wonderful ancient woodland.

Activities will fascinate all ages as we celebrate the traditions, ecology, folklore and beauty of our native woodlands.

Tune into trees with expert Alex Metcalf who will let you delight in a truly unique experience. His tree-listening microphones, developed alongside our Kew scientists, will allow you to hear beneath the bark. These extraordinary microphones were featured on BBC One in Judi Dench: My Passion for Trees.

Young adventurers will love letting off steam at Treetrunk Trek and exploring our tree trail and ‘have-a-go’ archery. A fire-lighting masterclass is a must for all those who love the outdoors, along with rolling up your sleeves and having a go at sword making and wood whittling.

The central arena will enable you to get up close to some fascinating birds of prey and to cheer along the Archers of Herstmonceux. Wakehurst’s woodsmen will be on hand to explain the work Kew do to protect our woodlands for future generations to enjoy.

Wild Wood Festival is the ideal day out in Wakehurst’s woodland, allowing you to enjoy delicious food whilst relaxing to live music and story-telling – perfect for this beautiful leafy setting.
