Come and find out about the Museum’s period gardens over the weekend of Saturday 30 June – Sunday 1 July 2018.
Discover the herbs, vegetables and flowers that rural households would have grown and used from Tudor times right up to the Victorian era.
There will be displays, guided walks and talks, plus a chance to view a short film about the Museum’s gardens. You can also chat to our gardening team and see the Museum’s herbarium too.
Find out how we use the plants grown in the Museum’s gardens for medicinal and culinary purposes, as well as natural dyeing and other uses. You can also learn how important gardens were to the ordinary working rural people of the past and how they would have been managed.
INFORMATION FOR VISITORS
The Historic Gardens Long Weekend will take place from Friday 30 June and Sunday 1 July 2018 at the Weald & Downland Living Museum at Singleton, near Chichester.
Visitors with access requirements are advised to contact the Museum in advance of their visit, to discuss the easiest way to access the site.
The Museum is open from 10.30am – 6.00pm daily and the Historic Gardens Weekend activities will take place between 11.00am and 5.00pm. Standard admission prices apply (free for Annual Members) and tickets will be available to purchase in advance via our online shop.
This event is part of our Rural Life Weekends programme, which also includes Scything, Charcoal and Woodyard, Home, Archaeology and Harvest.
