Hollycombe offers great value, as the entrance charge of £16 adults, £14 senior and £12 child (family tickets available) offers free return visits on the majority of open days for a calendar year. Visitors will be supporting a registered educational charity of national importance, run by volunteers, which relies solely on the money it receives from visitors.
Highlights of a visit include the ‘Razzle Dazzle’, the world’s first white-knuckle ride; Mr Field’s Steam Circus, the world’s oldest mechanically operated fairground ride and the stupendous views from the top of Hollycombe’s famous Big Wheel looking over the South Downs. The views are equally spectacular from Hollycombe’s Quarry Railway, a 2ft gauge, 1 ½ mile steam railway which pauses mid-trip to allow views over the South Downs and also the Sussex Weald.
Add to this opportunities to visit the world’s oldest Haunted House; steam boats, a miniature railway and a selection of juvenile rides and there is lots to keep families of all ages entertained! Hollycombe is set amongst Listed Gardens, with beautiful walks around the Estate leading past the Ice House to the ‘Romantic View.’ Spring displays of magnolias, camellias and daffodils give way to bluebells and rhododendrons, followed by the billowing blooms of the Mollis Azalea hybrids on the ‘Azalea Walk’ in mid-May.
Hollycombe has an extensive events programme, culminating in a series of evening openings ‘Fairground at Night’ on Saturdays in September and October. Admission tickets include entrance to future events.
