Built in the seventeenth century the palatial house that you see today was constructed to present the wealth, taste and royal connections of just one family told through an array of art collected over the last 900 years.
The estate rooms offer an infinity of paintings and sculptures, including major works by van Dyck, Turner, Flaxman and Blake. By contrast the Servants’ Quarters offer a glimpse of what work was like ‘below stairs’ with monthly demonstrations brought to life by our Costumed Interpretation team.
